Edited by: CCP Lingorm on 06/12/2007 07:49:39 If you have a missing boot.ini here is another solution.
Quote: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
Copy the above code into notepad and save it to "c:\boot.ini" Start > Run "msconfig" Go to the boot.ini tab and click "Check all boot paths"
This will then go down the list and check each of the lines to see if it is valid for you. You will get a popup telling you if any of the lines is Invalid and asking if you want to remove it. Click yes. At the end of all the popups you should be left with a working boot.ini
msconfig WILL NOT rebuild your boot.ini if you do not have one. It will only validate you exsisting boot.ini

speedo > You are not effected if you only did the autopatch.
If you downloaded and applied the Premium content then you could be effected.

Quote: We have taken down the ability to download the Classic to Premium upgrade patch until we have determined where the issue lies and how we can resolve this. Full install clients have not exhibited this issue and are safe to download.
Just wanted some clarification: Is the 584mb patch here supposed to be disabled or has it already disappeared off the available patches page? The former is still downloadable.
We have fixed the issue in the patch and it is now available again.
I am testing the BITS service as I type.

If you have lost your boot.ini windows can still boot under the following condition.
If you windows installation is on the first Partition on the First hard drive (this is the default location for windows).
In this case, Windows will report that the boot.ini file is missing but will still find the installation and continue loading.
If your windows is install else where (such as in the case where your PC/Laptop manufacturer has created a "Restore" petition on the first petition then windows will not boot.
As to the detection of this to even see that the file is missing involves using special command line tools or turning on viewing of both "Hidden" file and "System" files.
If you have not done this the first time you will notice is when you reboot your machine. And we do not shutdown or reboot our machines often as they run tests after hours.

Originally by: Tarh Assiliof Edited by: Tarh Assiliof on 06/12/2007 11:27:00 I've just try mistake theory.
del boot.ini don't work (file not found) del c:\boot.ini don't work (file not found) del /A:H c:\boot.ini don't work (acces refused) del /F /AH c:\boot.ini finally work !
So why putting "/F /AH" to delete a little boot.ini in eve directory ?
Is it really a mistake ?
You have been boot scrambled !
You would assume that this would hold true, but to install software into the "Program Files" directory you need admin permissions and a process that has this can delete the file with no warnings.
You see that was our thinking when it was reported ... "Can't be." Windows does not allow you to delete that file ... but it does.

For the sake of removing old EVE files, would your updater not first remove all attributes associated with the files it's about to modify/erase/etc, as I said above?
Our files are not actually flagged with either the read-only, hidden or similar so we do not need to unset these flags before deleting them. Thus we do not. CCP Lingorm CCP Quality Assurance QA Engineering Team Leader
